A Unique Blend of Expertise, Advocacy, and Impact
Wanda Silva’s journey is a fusion of life experiences and professional endeavors, uniquely positioning her to understand and navigate the cultural nuances within diverse Latino and multicultural communities. Her story begins with a decision to embrace the vibrant yet challenging landscape of New York City during the tumultuous ’80s.
Her academic path, culminating in a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, was more than just an education – it was a profound transformation that ignited her lifelong passion for addressing social and political issues through her work. Wanda’s journalism career spanned over two decades, granting her a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted world of Latino and multicultural communities. As a reporter and producer within several of the nation’s premiere Spanish-language media outlets, she experienced many states, each with its unique cultural tapestry.
She immersed herself in Native American culture in New Mexico, delved into the cowboy lifestyle of Texas, and explored the rich and varied cultures of Latino-American communities in California and New York. These journeys give Silva a profound insight into multicultural communities’ diversity, history, and vibrancy.
As a journalist, Wanda consistently championed the cause of underrepresented voices, a mission that earned her two Emmy® Awards. These accolades were a testament to her relentless dedication to amplifying voices that often go unheard. Wanda’s advocacy work also empowers the community. Notably, she was pivotal in a state-wide campaign in New Jersey that prepared undocumented immigrants to obtain a driver’s license. Her work was instrumental in overcoming the challenges posed by multiple motor vehicle closures during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her contributions to this initiative earned the commission an award for community outreach.
Most recently, as Senior Vice President of a global PR and Communication firm, Wanda was a vital member in propelling the passing of Proposition 28 in the state of California. This achievement brought back art and music education to public school students from pre-K to 12th grade. Wanda has actively worked with national and local non-profit organizations on critical issues related to the asylum seekers and housing crises in New York City. She has also collaborated with elected officials, helping them spread their mission and vision for their constituents.
Wanda’s career and life have been dedicated to creating positive change, fostering authenticity, and amplifying underrepresented voices. Wanda’s story is a testament to the power of communication and its potential for positive change.
